Business: The Mayor, Councillor Brian Underwood, informed Council that he had experienced an enjoyable and memorable year as Mayor. He thanked all those who had contributed to his year in office and, in particular his wife and Mayoress Nong Underwood and Councillor Lilian Strange for all of their support during the year.
The Chief Executive called for nominations for the Office of Mayor for 2006/07.
Decision: It was duly proposed and seconded that Councillor Simon Speller be nominated as Mayor for the 2006/07 Municipal Year. There being no other nominations, a vote was taken, and it was RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY that Councillor Simon Speller be elected as Mayor for the 2006/07 Municipal Year.
Councillor Speller then made the statutory declaration of acceptance of office and took the Chair.
The Mayor, Councillor Speller, expressed his thanks to his family and friends who were present and to all the people who had worked hard to ensure the success of the evening.
The Mayor advised that his themes for the year would be:-

* Business in the Community
The Charities which would be supported during the Mayor's term of office would be the Cycling Tourist Club, Mentoring Basketball Association, Stevenage District Scouts, Sue Ryder Care, Garden House Hospice and Stevenage Community Trust.
The Mayor announced that his wife Bridy Speller, would be Mayoress for 2006/07.
