Business: The Mayor, Councillor P.M. Stuart, referred to the various events which she had attended throughout the year and informed the meeting that she had enjoyed her Mayoral year. She thanked all those who had contributed to her memorable year in office and, in particular, she thanked Mayoress Pam Gallagher, as well as her daughters Kyrstin and Amanda for their support and her grandson, Lukas, who had acted as her mascot and touchstone.
The Chief Executive called for nominations for the office of Mayor for 2003/2004.
Decision: It was duly proposed and seconded that Councillor L.G. Strange be nominated as Mayor for the 2003/2004 Municipal Year. There being no other nominations, a vote was taken and it was RESOLVED that Councillor L.G. Strange be elected as Mayor for the 2003/2004 Municipal Year.
Councillor L.G. Strange then made the statutory declaration of acceptance of office and took the Chair.
The Mayor,Councillor L.G. Strange, expressed her thanks to her friends and family who were present and to all the people who had worked hard to ensure the success of the evening.
The Mayor announced that her theme for the year would be the community and within that context she would be encouraging as many sporting activities as possible.
She listed the charities which she would support during her term of office, namely the National Children's Homes, Garden House Hospice, Stevenage Community Trust and Stevenage Sports Council.
She announced that her husband, Dick Strange, would be the Mayor's Consort for 2003/04.

Councillor B. Jackson then made the statutory declaration of acceptance of office.
The Deputy Mayor thanked his proposer and seconder and announced that Mrs Sandra Jackson would be the Deputy Mayoress for 2003/2004.
