Business: The Mayor, Councillor D. Royall, CC, informed Council that he had experienced a memorable year as Mayor, which he had enjoyed enormously. He thanked all those who had contributed to his year in office and, in particular, his wife and Mayoress Clair Anthony- Royall, who had supported him both publicly and behind the scenes during the year.
The Chief Executive called for nominations for the Office of Mayor for 2005/06.
It was duly proposed and seconded that Councillor B.G. Underwood be nominated as Mayor for the 2005/06 Municipal Year. There being no other nominations, a vote was taken, and it was RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY that Councillor B.G. Underwood be elected as Mayor for the 2005/06 Municipal Year.
Councillor B.G. Underwood then made the statutory declaration of acceptance of office and took the Chair.
The Mayor, Councillor B.G. Underwood, expressed his thanks to his family and friends who were present and to all the people who had worked hard to ensure the success of the evening.
The Mayor advised that his theme for the year would be 'Community Care', and within that context he would be concentrating on initiatives and organisations which helped to strengthen community spirit in Stevenage.
He listed the charities which he would support during his term of office, namely Age Concern, Drugsline, React, Stevenage Council for Voluntary Services and Stevenage Community Trust.
He announced that his wife, Nong Underwood, would be Mayoress for 2005/06.

Business: The Chief Executive submitted a report seeking approval of amendments to the Council's Constitution, including the Terms of Reference for various bodies to support its Political Management Structure.
The Chief Executive explained that there were a number of typographical errors in Appendix A to the report, where automatic numbering or lettering of paragraphs had gone awry. This would be corrected before the final version was published in the Constitution.
It was moved and seconded that the recommendations contained in the report be approved.

(i) That the revised Standing Orders attached at Appendix A to the report, incorporating the Terms of Reference for the various bodies to support the Council's political management structure, be approved.
(ii) That, as set out in Appendix B to the report, the dates for Council meetings for the 2005/06 Municipal Year be approved and the draft dates for other meetings be noted.
